Our organization embraces a human rights based approach (HRBA) to drive advocacy for social accountability, environmental justice and the protection of sustainable livelihoods. Rooted in the principles of participation, non-discrimination, transparency and accountability, our approach ensures that Individuals and communities are not only beneficiaries but active rights-holders in shaping the policies and decisions that affect their lives.
We also strengthen the capacity of the duty bearers to fulfill their obligations in delivering inclusive and non-discriminatory services to all, while ensuring they are held accountable for their actions.
Our approach promotes sustainability by strengthening local capacity and fostering ownership among community members. Our advocacy initiatives have led to improved service delivery, increased budget transparency and the inclusion of vulnerable groups in decision making processes.
Grassroots’ Voices (GRAVO) is a community based organization dedicated to promoting the rights of marginalized and vulnerable communities in Kwale County. Our advocacy is evidence based and uses data and grassroots insights to advocate for transparent and accountable governance, particularly in sectors critical to human development such as health, education, environment, agriculture and social protection.
Our organization operates under a strong and transparent governance structure that ensures strategic oversight, accountability, and effective management. At the helm is a Board of Directors composed of seven members who bring diverse expertise in governance, finance, human rights, and community development. The Board provides overall direction, policy guidance, and fiduciary oversight to ensure the organization remains mission-focused and compliant with all legal and ethical standards.
Grassroots’ Voices is registered as a Community-Based Organization (CBO) under Kenyan law and operates across Kwale County.

Grassroots’ Voices is a community-based organization (CBO) operating in Kwale County, Kenya. The organization was founded in 2023 to respond to the growing community concerns around weak public participation, limited access to information, environmental degradation, climate impacts, and shrinking livelihood opportunities, particularly in areas affected by extractive activities and socio-economic marginalization.
